| Mount Vernon, the Heart of Skagit Valley
on Northwest Washington's Puget Sound, is halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C.. This site provides information about the area, local business and shopping, and the Chamber of Commerce, itself. It also contains links to City Government, Tulip Festival and other agencies and organizations. Historic Oldtown and its Farmers Market is a delightful reminder of this pioneer port on the Skagit River. While Agriculture is still important, Mount Vernon has grown into a bustling center for all types of commerce, particularly the high technology industry. It is also the gateway to both the North Cascades and the San Juan Islands and has become a basecamp to some of the most exciting outdoor activities and adventures in the Pacific Northwest. Mount Vernon is the seat of Skagit County, lying about halfway between Seattle and the
Canadian border along Interstate Highway 5. It is the largest city between Everett, 30 miles to the south, and Bellingham, 25 miles to the north. Mount Vernon ranks first in size among seven major communities of Skagit County. |
