Lacey, Washington is located at the southern end of Puget Sound and was incorporated on December 5, 1966. Lacey can be reached by traveling U.S. Interstate 5. It is located between Olympia and Fort Lewis.

For decades, Lacey was the place to go for summer fun. Horse racing enthusiasts flocked to Woodland (Lacey) from all over the northwest to watch the horse races and relax at the lake resorts. Many of these resorts emerged during the 1910's, when residents on Hicks and Pattison Lakes opened their homes to guests. With the advent of the automobile, Lacey became easily accessible to many more people in Thurston County and the mid-1920's saw an explosion in the growth of resorts in Hicks, Long, Pattison and Southwick Lakes. By 1926, there were seven resorts on Hicks Lake alone.

The resorts offered a variety of activities: swimming, fishing, boating, picnicking, camping, high dives, water courts and baseball. There were also campgrounds away from the lake such as the Log Cabin Camp and the Travis Campground. Golfers could enjoy playing on the nearby Mountain View Golf Course, now the site of Panorama City.
