The town of Winslow is the commercial and cultural heart of Bainbridge Island. Shops offer antiques, gifts and gadgets. We enjoy our own winery and have many fine restaurants. Art galleries and artists studios abound in town and around our Island. Parks, trails and beaches are never crowded.

Bainbridge has an active senior community, wonderful performing arts groups, an orchestra, dance studios, summer outdoor concerts, parks, trails, soccer and ball fields. Boats can be moored at three marinas or launch your boat from three other locations.

Bainbridge enjoys a decidedly practical yet appealing amount of isolation with a thirty minute ferry boat ride from downtown Seattle to the east, or a bridge that connects us to the Olympic Peninsula to the west. Bainbridge is roughly a four by twelve mile island. It is lightly populated, eighteen thousand, give or take a few, mostly happy folks, and unhurried and uncommercial.

Some consider Bainbridge to be a bedroom community and so they make the daily ferry commute to downtown Seattle. Others work on the Kitsap Peninsula or on the Island. Regardless, many islanders feel more a part of Seattle than Kitsap County.

The Island also offers several preschool and day care centers, three elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and all levels of private schools. Bainbridge Island students consistently score high on state-wide achievement tests.

The typical home on Bainbridge sold for about $291,000 in 1996, while the typical home in the rest of Kitsap County sold for about $130,000.
