communities of Brinnon and Quilcene are located on the northwest corner of serene Hood Canal. They welcome you to shellfish-rich tidal basins and endless mountain trails into the Olympics. This scenic stretch of Highway 101 boasts many campgrounds, lakes, rivers, and innumerable boating, fishing, hiking, trail-riding, cross-country skiing, bird watching, and sight-seeing opportunities.
The area, famous for its logging traditions, has become the oyster-shrimp-clam capital of the canal.
Brinnon holds its annual Shrimpfest the first weekend of shrimp season, and shrimpers come from all over the Northwest to fish the Canal's rich waters. Shrimpfest coincides with the peak of rhododendron flowering, which can be enjoyed at the breathtaking Whitney Gardens in Brinnon.
Quilcene is home to the largest oyster hatcheries in the world and is reputed to have the purest, most pristine salt water in the west. A visit to the Quilcene Ranger Station will provide shellfishing,
camping, hiking and backpacking information.
Olympic Music Festival's concerts north of Quilcene offer relaxed weekend performances. |
